Transformation – Chakra Series
I challenged myself to a series of paintings representing the nature of our 7 chakras so I could also experiment with color and challenge myself to dance between the structure of a goal, but also the abstract part of myself that is having fun when I create! Our chakras become muddied with our fears and past traumas, and they also emanate the light that is pushing you to live your life in healing and purpose. They carry different colors as they siphon into one another, and swirl with our energy depending on how we are feeling, whether connected with our soul’s purpose or disconnected by our lack of belief in ourselves to fulfill this purpose.
Crown Chakra
Year: 2020
Medium: Acrylic on cradled panel with gold metal leaf, clear resin finish. Finished cradle frame with acrylic and distressed gold metal leaf.
Dimensions: 16 inches x 12 inches
Description: I love this piece, layers of various purples and fluorescent pink play over the acrylic molding paste base shining through the metal gold leaf. This piece really captures for me the high I feel when expressing my spirit and joy.
Third Eye Chakra
Year: 2020
Medium: Acrylic on cradled panel with gold metal leaf, clear resin finish. Finished cradle frame with acrylic and distressed gold metal leaf.
Dimensions: 16 inches x 12 inches
Description: The third eye chakra is our spiritual site. It is a complicated chakra with a mix of control because there are many things we don’t want to see about ourselves in others. Yes, our world is colored in perceptions, and many of them are projections onto others, whether they are those that we look up to or those we reject. Again, layers of various shades of blue dancing over a highly textured surface of tinted molding paste and gold metal leaf, there is lots to see, after all.
Throat Chakra
Year: 2020
Medium: Acrylic on cradled panel with gold metal leaf, clear resin finish. Finished cradle frame with acrylic and distressed gold metal leaf.
Dimensions: 16 inches x 12 inches
Description: The throat chakra is where we speak our truth from places of love, authenticity and also the place within ourselves that we manifest control issues. In our world there is not much that we can control except how we accept the world around us and react to those things that trigger our darkness, as well as our need to connect and be loved. Layers of bright blues, dark blues, green, yellow and even green. We carry a lot in our throat chakras!

HEART CHAKRA
Year: 2020
Medium: Acrylic on cradled panel with gold metal leaf, clear resin finish. Finished cradle frame with acrylic and distressed gold metal leaf.
Dimensions: 16 inches x 12 inches
Description: The heart chakra, a place to create, think and feel from. This energy fuels our lives and when weaved properly into our actions and mind, yields compassion, empathy, joy, and healing within and with others. It is our other brain that reminds us we are one. A mix of deep green, blue, yellow, and gold flow over the textured molding paste base covered in gold metal leaf.
Solar Plexus Chakra
Year: 2020
Medium: Acrylic on cradled panel with gold metal leaf, clear resin finish. Finished cradle frame with acrylic and distressed gold metal leaf.
Dimensions: 16 inches x 12 inches
Description: Our solar plexus chakra is like a yellow sun that serves as our power center. Its light can be diminished through thoughts of unworthiness which diminish our sense of power as creators. Our voice is strongly rooted in our power center, which is why I chose to add blue into this piece. If you look close enough, you’ll also see a light orange yellow peaking through in certain places, as our sacral chakra can easily be affected by our power center. The colors are enriched with the texture of the molding paste under the gold metal leaf.
Sacral CHAKRA
Year: 2020
Medium: Acrylic on cradled panel with gold metal leaf, clear resin finish. Finished cradle frame with acrylic and distressed gold metal leaf.
Dimensions: 16 inches x 12 inches
Description: The sacral chakra is generally known for its association with our creativity and sexuality, both affected greatly by emotions. It’s orange color pushed my boundaries because I’m generally not attracted to using orange in my artwork, or anywhere else in my life. At the same time, creativity is so deeply rooted in my life as an expression of my joy. Our neighboring root chakra sits below it, and you can see its color red rising throughout this piece, rich with texture and shining metal leaf.
Root Chakra
Year: 2020
Medium: Acrylic on cradled panel with gold metal leaf, clear resin finish. Finished cradle frame with acrylic and distressed gold metal leaf.
Dimensions: 16 inches x 12 inches
Description: When I think of our root chakra, I think of my anchor to nature. Although generally associated with red, I could not help but put turquoise into this piece. Living in New Mexico, turquoise feels like a sacred part of the earth here, and something to be honored in this piece. When I connect in my mind with this chakra I think about the tree of life, with its strength reaching to the sky, and roots growing deep into the earth.
