Transformation – Consciousness

Clarity

Year:  2015

Medium:  Mixed Media Acrylic on cradled panel with gold metal leaf, gold mica powder.  Finished cradle frame with acrylic and distressed gold metal leaf.

Dimensions:  16 inches x 12 inches

Description:  This piece utilizes soft gel medium skins covered in gold metal leaf for the 3 geometric forms that really connect to our sacred nature.  The unity of the undivided geometric form also covered in metal leaf represents to me that clarity we gain within ourselves at times, as a direct result of the chaos we experience in our minds every day.  I also started to learn from acrylic high flows in this piece, the beginning of a love affair!  I love capturing movement with high flow acrylic paints mixed with water, and separated by rubbing alcohol.

Dancing Consciousness

Year:  2020

Medium:  Acrylic on cradled panel with gold metal leaf, clear resin finish.  Finished cradle frame with acrylic and distressed gold metal leaf.

Dimensions:  24 inches x 30 inches

Description:  I love to dance when I start painting.  This piece captures for me a part of that process.  Rich texture from hard molding paste is captured underneath the gold leaf as its base.  Through a long process of layering with mediums and paints, this piece finishes its dance with broken up gold metal leaf.

Formlessness in Blue

Year:  2020

Medium:  Acrylic on cradled panel with gold metal leaf, clear resin finish.  Finished cradle frame with acrylic and distressed gold metal leaf.

Dimensions:  36 inches x 24 inches

Description:  This is the largest piece I’ve ever done, and the beginning of many more.  I started this process with hard molding paste tinted with red oxide paint and dark brown glazing, reminding me of old carved wooden statues with a painted red gesso as their base, underneath beautiful gold leaf, aged to perfection.  Then the beauty of blues took over my heart, and through a process of layering, I ended with a highly textured piece complemented by a series of overlapping circles broken apart just as unity appears when we are disconnected from our hearts.  Flaked metal leaf is scattered across demonstrating the movement of light.

Mind Settling

Year:  2016

Medium:  Acrylic on cradled panel with gold metal leaf.  Finished cradle frame with acrylic and distressed gold metal leaf.

Dimensions:  12 inches x16 inches

Description:  One of my earliest pieces that gave me the opportunity to play and learn with color.  Under the clear, dividing gold metal leaf line are tiny pieces of gold metal leaf settling like a puddle of water settling after someone jumps into it.  Just like our mind during meditation.  Again, the movement of color is captured through high flow acrylics with water and rubbing alcohol.

Vera

Year:  2019

Medium:  Mixed Media Acrylic on cradled panel with gold metal leaf, clear resin finish.  Finished cradle frame with acrylic and distressed gold metal leaf.

Dimensions:  24 inches x 30 inches

Description:  This piece is less abstract than most of my work.  I played with the brightest colors I could imagine, especially highlighting the fluorescent pink.  I created this piece in response to the passing of a beautiful soul in my life that left our world way too early.  Her presence colored our world, and she felt deeply.  Her passing was a cosmic explosion for my world and if you look closely, in the top right corner of this piece, you’ll see a translucent golden butterfly taking off to a place of love and healing.

formlessness in violet

Year:  2020

Medium:  Acrylic on cradled panel with gold metal leaf, clear resin finish.  Finished cradle frame with acrylic and distressed gold metal leaf.

Dimensions:  36 inches x 24 inches

Description:  This piece carries with it a similar process to my many other pieces – tinted hard molding paste to set the stage for lots of texture, only I chose to format the gold metal leaf into smaller squares this time, reminding me of an old relief done of a Buddha.  From there I chose to dive into colors rooted in violet, and then weave in many bright hues of pink and gold high flows.  The deeper blue hues set a tone for introspection, those moments in life where we must reflect in order to move forward.  I finished with more gold metal leaf in smaller pieces, capturing the breath of our awareness and unity.
